This research aims to analyze: 1) the fulfillment of DanniSanders desire for validation based on Abraham Maslow’shierarchy of needs, and 2) the influence of social interaction onDanni Sanders’ desire for validation based on George HerbertMead’s theory of the Self.This research uses a descriptive qualitative method toanalyze the movie Not Okay (2022) directed by Quinn Shephard asthe object of the research. The data collection techniques includewatching the movie, reading the subtitles, identifying, classifying, and selecting relevant dialogues. The researcher applies AbrahamMaslow’s theory of human motivation and George Herbert Mead’stheory of symbolic interactionism in analyzing the data bydisplaying, explaining, and interpreting them.The result of this research shows that: 1) Danni Sandersdesire for validation is fulfilled through the stages of love andbelongingness needs as well as esteem needs, includingrecognition from others, popularity on social media, and perceivedself-worth; 2) social interactions significantly influence Danni’sdesire for validation, especially through the roles of the Me, I, andgeneralized other as conceptualized by Mead, which shape herself-concept and drive her to seek social approval and externalvalidation.
