This study aimed to improve the vocabulary skills of 8th-grade students at SMPNegeri 3 Sukoharjo using the Silent Way method. The research adopted aClassroom Action Research (CAR) design, conducted over two cycles during the2023/2024 academic year. The sample consisted of one randomly selected classfrom the 8th grade, and data were collected using a mixed-method approach,including interviews, observations, field notes, and tests. The pre-test and post-testscores were used to measure the effectiveness of the intervention. Initially, the pretestresults indicated that the majority of students were in the "Poor" and "VeryPoor" categories, highlighting a significant need for improved vocabularyinstruction. During Cycle 1, the Silent Way method, characterized by minimalteacher speech and the use of visual aids, was implemented, resulting in someimprovement but still a high percentage of students in the "Very Poor" category.Adjustments in Cycle 2, including the incorporation of new media and moreinteractive activities, led to significant progress. The percentage of students in the"Very Poor" category dropped dramatically, while those in higher proficiencycategories increased. The iterative process of planning, action, observation, andreflection in each cycle contributed to continuous improvement in students'vocabulary skills. The study concluded that the Silent Way method effectivelyenhances vocabulary acquisition by engaging students and fostering activeparticipation. These findings suggest that innovative, student-centered teachingmethods can significantly improve language learning outcomes. Further research isrecommended to explore the long-term effects of such methods on vocabularyretention and overall language proficiency. Keywords: Effectiveness, Vocabulary Skills, Silent Way
