    POLITICAL MARRIAGE IN WESTEROS REFLECTED IN MIGUEL SAPOCHNIK’S HOUSE OF THE DRAGON (2022)

    This study aims to analyze: 1) the depiction of political marriage and, 2) theimpact of the patriarchal system on women within the toxic dynamics of politicalmarriage in Miguel Sapochnik's House of the Dragon (2022) series. This researchutilizes qualitative descriptive methods to analyze the series House of the Dragon(2022) by Miguel Sapochnik. The researcher applies theories of political marriageand patriarchy, drawing on concepts from scholars such as Geary (2010), Weber(1978), Millett (1970), and Walby (1989). Data collection methods involvedwatching, reading, identifying, classifying, and selecting relevant information fromthe series. The findings of this research indicate that: 1) Political marriage isportrayed as a strategic tool for building alliances, expanding power, andmaintaining political stability in Westeros. Key practices include arrangedmarriages for children, spouse exchange, consolidation of land and property, anddiplomatic marriages. The purposes center on securing political alliances,expanding power and territory, and establishing peace. 2) The dominant patriarchalsystem significantly impacts women's lives, restricting their autonomy and dignitythrough practices of sexual control, regulation of gender roles, reproductive control,and cultural representation. This system uses women as instruments to achievemen's political goals and ambitions, often sacrificing women's welfare and freedomfor family and royal interests.
