    IMPROVING STUDENTS’ SPEAKING SKILL USING SELF-TALK STRATEGY AT THE SEVENTH GRADE OF SMP ISLAM AL-MABRUR PEJAWARAN

    When learning English, teachers often find students who do notunderstand the material presented. Students often show nointerest in learning by not paying attention when teachers explain,often inviting friends to talk to themselves. From these problems,it is very clear that students were not interested in learning andneed improvement. The researchers conducted a 7th grade studyat SMP Islam Al-Mabrur Pejawaran, with a total of 27 students.After discussing with English teachers, the researchers agree touse the self-talk strategy in the hope of improving students'speaking skills. This research uses the design of ClassroomAction Research (CAR). The study consists of two cycles, eachconsisting of four stages of planning, action, observation, andreflection. For data collection techniques, the researchers usedstudent speech tests, interviews, field records, and documentreviews. The test results were shown at pre-cycle 63,18, and posttestcycle166,70.Thereisaslightimprovement,butitdidnotmeettheKKMstandard.Meanwhile,theresearchersperformingpost-testcycle2experiencedanimprovementwiththeresult81.Byusingtheself-talkstrategy,anincreaseaboveKKMresultscan be said to be successful. Based on the results of the research,it can be concluded that students are interested and enthusiasticabout learning using self-talk strategies because the researcherprovides a wide range of opportunities for students to practicespeech.
