<note>Teaching speaking skill needs extra attempt for the English teachersince the students still faces many problems. The teacher needs to findappropriate and effective solution to overcome these issues. The main objectiveof the research is to improve students’ speaking ability using guessing game atninth grade of MTs Hidayah Al Qur’an Wonosobo. This research is classroomaction research that consists of pre-cycle, cycle 1, and cycle 2. Each cycle hasfour steps that are planning, action, observation, and reflection. Theinstruments of the research are test, interview guide, questionnaire sheet,observation field, and lesson plan. The data is analysed by using mixed method.In analysing qualitative data, the writer uses observation sheet, interview guide,and questionnaire sheet. The technique is done by observing teaching andlearning process happened in the class. The quantitative data is collected fromoral performance test that is conducted by asking the students to perform oralactivity that computed by using mean score. The researcher roles as observerand English teacher in the class. The result of the research shows theimprovement of using guessing game in speaking class. The implementation ofguessing game is also believed to maximize students’ participation during thespeaking activities, and reduces the students’ boredem on learning. This resultimplies that the implementation of guessing game gives the positive effects onimproving students’ skills in speaking English.Keywords: Improving, Teaching Speaking, Speaking Ability, DescriptiveIllustration, Guessing Game</note>
