THE USE OF MONOLOGUE TECHNIQUE TO IMPROVE SPEAKING SKILL AT FIFTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SD NEGERI 1 MLIPAK

English is a global language that has been taught in Indonesia at variouslevels of education. There are still many students who experiencedifficulties when learning and practicing English, such as difficulty whenspeaking English. Speaking is an activity that a person uses tocommunicate with other people. Teaching speaking is a process of ateacher helping students to facilitate them in achieving learning goals inspeaking skills. To overcome this problem, researcher conducted researchon the use of monologue techniques to improve students' speaking skills.Monologue means a long conversation alone, generally to explainsomething that has happened. The aim of this research is to createinteresting English speaking learning activities in the classroom, as well asto assess the effectiveness of using monologue techniques to improvespeaking skills. The subjects in this research were 5th grade students atSD Negeri 1 Mlipak. This research uses a classroom action research (CAR)design. The instruments in this research include observation, tests, anddocumentation. This research was conducted in two cycles, in the resultsof post-test I the average student assessment score was 47.97 or 57% ofstudents passed with a score above 75. In post-test II the average scorewas 59.86, as many as 73 % of students passed with a score above 75.From these results it can be concluded that the monologue technique isable to improve speaking skills in grade 5 students at SD Negeri 1 Mlipak.
