English is a universal language because it is used as the first language in most countries.In high school, English is a compulsory subject, many students are not interested inlearning English, especially reading because there is vocabulary that is difficult forthem. Story mapping is a method that allows students to learn English in a fun way.This will develop students' capacity for activity and productivity. This research alsoaims to improve students' reading skills so that students are able to read texts, especiallynarrative texts in English. This research uses Classroom Action Research (CAR) as aresearch method, involving writers and English teachers at SMK WIRATAMA 45.2WONOSOBO. Kemmis & Mc Taggart's Classroom Action Research design adapted inthis research consists of 2 cycles, each cycle includes; Planning, Action, Observationand Reflection, with data collection through pre-test and post-test. The results of thisClass Action research show that the average pre-test score is 60,54. Before studentsapply Narrative Text Learning, Story Mapping is applied to improve students' readingskills. Then the first post-test in cycle I shows an average score 69,75, in the secondpost-test in cycle II an average score was obtained 78.82, it was concluded that 23students passes with a completeness score (KKM) of 73. From this data it can beconcluded that teaching Narrative Text Learning using Story Mapping is able toimprove students' reading skills.
