THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING CARICATURE PICTURE MEDIA TO IMPROVE STUDENTS’ VOCABULARY IN FOURTH GRADERS AT ISLAMIC ELEMENTARY SCHOOL 3 DEMAK

This study aims to: (1) find out the use of caricature image media toincrease students' vocabulary in learning English; (2) determine the increase instudents' vocabulary in learning English; (3) to know the differences invocabulary mastery between the experimental class uses caricature media inlearning and the control class uses conventional learning methods. This researchuses a quantitative approach with the experimental method of the QuaseExperiment type in the form of a Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design with thesamples that are taken from 38 students. In this study, there are two variables,namely the independent variable and the dependent variable. The independentvariable is the use of caricature image media. In contrast, the dependent variable isthe increase in the vocabulary of class IV MIN 3 Demak students by using severaldata collection techniques, including interviews, observation, documentations andtests. The results of this study shows: (1) the use of caricature image media proveseffective in increasing students' vocabulary mastery in learning English, (2) thereis an increase in the vocabulary mastery of class IV MIN 3 Demak students afterusing caricature image media, (3) there are differences in vocabulary masterybetween the experimental class that uses the caricature image media method inlearning and the control class that still uses the lecture learning method, with theresults of calculating the data analysis that the researcher obtained, namely tcount =3.367 and ttable = 2.028 for a significance level of 5% and 2.719 for a significancelevel of 1% with dk = n1 + n2 – 2 = 19 + 19 -2 = 36. Because tcount > ttable, Ho isrejected, and Ha is accepted. Thus it can be concluded that there is an increase instudents' vocabulary mastery after using caricature image media at MIN 3 Demak.
