    Vocabulary is an important skill to master in learning English. Because it can support the abilityto communicate with foreigners. However, it is not an easy thing to memorize a lot ofvocabulary for students because they are required to read every day, especially for childrenwho have just entered junior high school, who on average are still not diligent or even lazy toread. So the solution to this problem is that the teacher must be creative in creating a funlearning atmosphere in the classroom by making games. There are many types of games thatcan be played in the classroom, but in this study the researchers chose board games as gamesthat could be applied in the classroom.Board games are a type of game that has a variety of hazards, but are generally made of thickcardboard. Chess, Monopoly, Snakes and Ladders are board games that have been known fora long time and are played by many people. Teachers often use board games to teach Englishto their students. Gobet, Voogt, Retschitzki (2004: 2) emphasizes that a board game is a gamewith a fixed set of rules that limit the number of pieces on the board, the number of positionsof these pieces, and the number of possible moves. From this media students are expected tobe able to master a lot of vocabulary more quickly.The purpose of this research is to find out how this board game can improve students' abilityto learn English vocabulary. The researcher used classroom action research as the researchdesign. This research involved Miftah cource students and was conducted in 4 meetings. Thefirst to third meetings are the implementation of the board game and the last is the test.The result of this research is shows that the picture guessing board game is effective forincreasing students' vocabulary. This statement is based on increased students' average scoresin the pre-test and post-test cycles I and II.
