AN ANALYSIS OF TEACHER’S STRATEGY IN TEACHING PUBLIC SPEAKING OF ELEVENTH GRADERS AT SMK MUHAMMADIYAH 1 WONOSOBO

The objective of the research is to analyze the strategies that teachersof the eleventh graders in public speaking material at SMKMuhammadiyah 1 Wonosobo. This research uses descriptive researchwith qualitative approach. The purpose of this research are “ to find andanalyze teacher’s strategy in teaching public speaking” and “to find andanalyze the factor that support and hinder in teaching public speaking”.The instrument for this research use interview, observation, anddocumentation. The results of this research show that; 1) The teacher'sstrategy in teaching Public Speaking, the teacher uses a memorizationstrategy for student practice after first preparing the material andexplaining it. 2) Factors that hinder and support learning public speakingcome from various sides. One of the biggest obstacles is students whofeel shy and lack self-confidence. The lack of self-confidence in studentsis caused by the students themselves not liking English and notunderstanding its meaning, which makes these students feel afraid toappear in public. The other factors that hinder public speaking that iswhen teacher don’t understand the material and there is no guidlinebooksfrom school. Meanwhile, the supporting factor in public speakinglearning activities is the student's desire to learn.
