    THE ENGLISH WORD STRING LEARNING METHOD TO IMPROVE STUDENTS’ SPEAKING SKILLS FOR THE TENTH GRADE OF NETWORK ENGINEERING II CLASS AT SMK NEGERI 1 BAWANG

    This research focuses: on 1) Describing the implementation of The Word String learning method to improve students’ speaking skills for the tenth grade of Network Engineering 2 class at SMK Negeri 1 Bawang and 2) Identifying the effectiveness of using The Word String learning method to improve students’ speaking skills. Teaching English to the tenth grade of Vocational School means teaching students age 15 to 16. During the English learning process, the researcher delivers the application of The Word String learning method then, students are free to express the topic of discussion according to the theme determined by the assessment criteria of English speaking skills. The researcher has an important role as the teacher must be able to generate motivation and interest because of gamebased learning in English lessons. This research conducts Classroom Action Research (CAR) method and by using a mixed method approach to collecting by quantitatively describing qualitatively, this research was experimental due to the simple random sampling of participants for answering interview sheets. The data collected in this research using the research instrument of observation checklist, interview sheet, and cycle tests through The Word String learning method and the Classroom Action Research includes learning activities and will be conducted in the five meetings in this research. This research shows the following results: 1) There are three stages of teaching and learning activity: The mean score of precycle is 69,86, 72,42, 73,42, the mean score of the cycle 1 test is 79,21 increasing by 10,16% and the cycle 2 test was 84,44 increasing by 6,6% of students’ speaking skills. Based on the result of the research, which able to find that the researcher already concluded that improving students’ speaking skills were taught by The Word String learning method with the purpose to facilitate students learning English through game-based learning to fulfill students’ speaking aspects. That was proved that teaching English through The Word String learning method was usefully recommended for the English teacher to improve students’ speaking skills.
