IMPROVING STUDENTS’ READING SKILL THROUGH CHORAL READING METHOD AT TENTH GRADERS OF MA MA’ARIF DARUL AMAN PRINGSURAT

A research proposal of English Education Department, Faculty of Language and Literature, Sains Al-Qur’an University. The objectives of this study are: (1) to determine the application of the learning strategy of choral reading to improve reading skills; (2) to determine the effectiveness of the implementation of the learning strategy of choral reading on students' reading ability. Innovative learning models can develop the potential of participants students because the learning process involves students actively in learning. This type of research is Classroom Action Research which consists of 3 cycles. The subjects in the study are 23 students of class X IPS 1. Data collection techniques used are observation, documentation, and tests. The data analysis technique was qualitative, namely by making reflection notes, namely thoughts that arise when observing and was the result of the process of comparing, linking or connecting the displayed data with previous data. The results of this Classroom Action Research showing an increase in the initial ability compared to cycle 1, namely students who completed cycle 1 amounted to 3 students or 13,04%. From the results of the second cycle, the students who have completed are 15 students from 23 students or 65,21%. From cycle 2 to cycle 3 there was an increase of 100% of students manage to get above average results. This proves that using choral reading method can improve students’ reading skills effectively.
