The aim of this study is to determine the effectiveness of using therole-play teaching method to decrease student foreign languageanxiety. The method that the researcher uses in this research is amix of both quantitative and qualitative methods. The quantitativemethod uses classroom action research (CAR) measurement, whilein the qualitative method, the data is collected by usingobservation, questionnaires, and interviews. Researchers discoverthat the role-play teaching method effectively reduces students'foreign language anxiety (FLA), as evidenced by the increase instudents who pass the average speaking scoring aspect from precycle3students(15%),cycle110students(50%),andcycle218students(90%). The questionnaire also reveals that studentsexperience a range of anxiety, from mildly to highly anxious, withanxiety of failure being the main cause. Researchers also gainstudents' perspectives about FLA through observation andinterviews, which combine the main causes of their FLA and theircoping mechanisms, which the researcher identifies as fear,confidence, and overwhelm, as well as the three strategies they useto manage their FLA: relaxation, practice, and positivity.
